Team Spotlight – Jack Trochessett

At FaverGray, we cherish the opportunity to recognize the people behind the projects. Meet Jack Trochessett, one of FaverGray’s resourceful interns. Jack supports Project Managers and Assistant Project Managers in the planning, coordination, and execution of construction projects from preconstruction through closeout. His primary responsibilities include assisting with project documentation, subcontractor coordination, scheduling, procurement, RFIs, submittals, and a variety of other project-related tasks that allow him to gain hands-on experience and learn construction management best practices while helping deliver safe, high-quality multifamily and student housing projects. According to Jack, his typical day at FaverGray includes aiding Assistant Project Managers and Project Managers on daily tasks like calling subcontractors, which he cites as his favorite part of his role. Jack is looking forward to building his professional repertoire, but his favorite accomplishment so far is building his family’s home. When asked what inspired him to pursue a career in construction, Jack credits the joy he gets from seeing a piece of land transform into something people use daily. In the same vein, his passion for helping others live more enjoyable lives informs what profession he would be pursuing if not for construction: a fishing guide. His time in construction so far has developed his attention to detail the most, and the biggest challenge has been learning the ropes of the industry. Outside of work, Jack enjoys going to the gym, fishing, and spending afternoons at the beach. Consequently, his favorite place he’s ever traveled is the Bahamas. He is an avid spear fisher, and his top bucket list item is spearing a marlin. Jack’s favorite song is “Jesus Saves” by Riley Green!
How FaverGray Successfully Delivers Housing In A Complex Market

The U.S. housing market continues to evolve as developers and contractors adapt to shifting economic conditions, regulatory environments and capital constraints. While policymakers at the federal, state and local levels are exploring ways to improve affordability and increase supply, progress varies by market. In this environment, experienced partners that can bring clarity, discipline and execution to complex projects are critical. “Every project today requires a more intentional approach to how it’s structured and delivered,” said Ben Hinson, President at FaverGray, a general contractor. “Our focus is on being a reliable partner, someone our clients can trust to navigate complexity, protect their investment and deliver a quality product that performs in the market.” FaverGray specializes in multifamily and student housing construction, with a portfolio spanning diverse markets and product types. By focusing on long-term partnerships, disciplined execution and a deep understanding of the markets it serves, FaverGray continues to move projects forward. “Execution is how project success is guaranteed,” said Mark Higby, Division Leader at FaverGray. “It comes down to how well you manage risk, maintain schedule discipline and ensure the right resources are in place at the right time.” The current financial climate has introduced additional complexity to multifamily and student housing development, requiring careful coordination between owners, design teams and contractors. “There’s little margin for misalignment,” said John Kitchens, Division Leader at FaverGray. “You’re balancing cost, speed to market and a very specific end-user expectation. Understanding how those factors intersect is critical to delivering a successful project.” FaverGray’s approach places a strong emphasis on aligning project teams early while maintaining flexibility as conditions evolve, said Walker Palmer, Division Leader at FaverGray. “Preconstruction is important, but what really sets projects apart is how teams perform once you’re in the field,” Palmer said. “That’s where communication, accountability and day-to-day decision-making have the biggest impact.” This field-focused mindset extends to trade partner relationships and jobsite execution, he said. “We’re intentional about how we build our teams,” Palmer said. “Working with the right trade partners and making sure they’re set up for success drives efficiency and ultimately leads to a better finished product.” Material availability and procurement strategies continue to play an important role in maintaining project momentum, Higby added. “Staying ahead of procurement and understanding lead times allows us to avoid unnecessary disruptions,” Higby said. “It’s about being proactive and maintaining discipline across every phase of the project.” Beyond project execution, FaverGray continues to prioritize long-term stability and team development. “Our people are a major part of what differentiates us,” Hinson said. “We’ve built a culture that values consistency, accountability and long-term relationships, and that shows up in the way we deliver for our clients.” Multifamily and student housing sectors remain strong, supporting FaverGray’s positive outlook for steady activity in these markets. “We continue to see strong momentum throughout the Southeast, along with growing interest in expanding into new markets,” Kitchens said. “The projects moving forward are being led by experienced teams with a clear vision and a long-term approach, and we’re proud to be part of that continued growth.” With a strong foundation of repeat clients and longstanding industry relationships, FaverGray continues to support multifamily and student housing developments throughout the Southeast while actively pursuing new strategic partnerships, expanding into emerging markets, and growing its presence across the 19 states where the company is licensed. The company’s leadership highlighted five projects under construction that showcase FaverGray’s capabilities and continued growth across the multifamily and student housing sectors. Building for Long-Term Value Starts Before Groundbreaking

Every multifamily development begins with a series of decisions. Long before construction starts, developers are evaluating budgets, financing, schedules, site constraints and market conditions while balancing the expectations of investors, municipalities and future residents. By the time a project reaches the field, many of the decisions that will influence its success have already been made. That’s why preconstruction is much more than a budgeting exercise. It’s an opportunity to identify challenges, evaluate options and build alignment across the entire project team before construction begins. The Earlier Questions Are Asked, the Better One of the greatest advantages of bringing a general contractor into the process early is gaining practical insight while the project is still taking shape. A drawing may work well from a design standpoint, but it can also affect procurement, sequencing or coordination in ways that aren’t immediately apparent. Reviewing those details during preconstruction gives the team time to evaluate alternatives before they become schedule impacts or change orders. Those conversations aren’t about changing the architect’s vision. They’re about making informed decisions while flexibility still exists. Every Decision Influences the Next Developers make hundreds of decisions before a project breaks ground, and very few happen in isolation. A material substitution may affect lead times. A layout revision can change how multiple trades coordinate in the field. Site logistics may influence scheduling months before vertical construction begins. Even seemingly minor adjustments can create opportunities to improve efficiency—or introduce unnecessary complexity. Looking at the project as a whole rather than a collection of individual decisions helps create a more predictable path through construction. Preconstruction provides the opportunity to evaluate those relationships early, when solutions are often simpler, less disruptive and more cost-effective. Successful Projects Are Built on Strong Partnerships The most successful developments don’t happen because every challenge was anticipated. Construction is complex, and every project presents its own set of variables. What makes a difference is having the right team involved from the beginning. Developers, architects, engineers and contractors each bring a different perspective to the table. When those perspectives come together early, the project benefits from open communication, realistic expectations and decisions that support both the construction process and the long-term goals of the development. At FaverGray, we’ve seen the value of that collaboration across multifamily and student housing communities throughout the Southeast. The projects that move through construction most efficiently are often the ones where planning began long before groundbreaking. While every development is different, one principle remains the same: thoughtful planning creates a stronger foundation for everything that follows.
Ben J. Hinson Promoted to President of FaverGray

FaverGray is proud to announce the promotion of Ben J. Hinson to President. A key member since the beginning, Hinson has been instrumental in the company’s continued growth through his leadership, vision and dedication, helping shape FaverGray into the success it is today. Based in Jacksonville Beach, Florida, FaverGray is a general contractor specializing in multifamily and student housing construction throughout the Southeast. From preconstruction through project completion, the company emphasizes proactive construction management, safety and quality assurance to help deliver successful projects for its developer partners. Founded in 2005 by James A. Gray and W. Keith Faver, FaverGray was established with the goal of creating a boutique general contracting firm. Over the past two decades, the company has evolved into a nationally recognized and award-winning builder while maintaining the personalized approach and client-focused values on which it was founded. Gray will continue to serve as CEO, while Faver has transitioned into the role of Chairman of the Board, providing strategic guidance for the company. Hinson embodies the culture and spirit that have defined FaverGray since its founding. With a strong commitment to promoting from within and building lasting careers, the company views Hinson’s journey and long-standing tenure as a testament to those values. Beginning his career with FaverGray as a Project Manager, Hinson rose through the ranks to become Senior Project Manager, Division Leader and Executive Vice President, a position he has held since 2019, before being named President. His leadership has been instrumental in the company’s growth, contributing to more than $3 billion in contracted revenue and the successful delivery of over 20,000 units and 32,000 beds. Hinson will continue to lead overall project operations, divisional management and support, preconstruction planning and management, contract negotiations, resource allocation and project level financial reporting. As President, Hinson is responsible for implementing and managing corporate strategy and vision, managing overall corporate operations and budgeting, operational risk management, market sector analysis, management of client relationships and oversight of large-scale program development. More than his accomplishments, those who know Hinson know him for his integrity, humility and dedication to the people and values that have shaped FaverGray since its founding. Throughout his career, he has earned the trust and respect of employees, clients and industry partners through his leadership, character and genuine care for others. His depth of industry knowledge, strategic thinking and ability to see the bigger picture have helped guide FaverGray’s growth while positioning the company for long-term success. Few people have had a greater impact on the company’s culture and trajectory, and FaverGray is grateful for the lasting influence he has had on the people and relationships that have helped build the company over the last 21 years. It is with great honor that FaverGray celebrates Hinson’s promotion as he continues to shape the company’s future and build on its legacy.
Team Spotlight – Jonathan Gonzalez

At FaverGray, we take pride in celebrating the people who make our projects possible. Meet Jonathan Gonzalez, one of FaverGray’s dedicated Assistant Superintendents who joined the team earlier this year. Jonathan works closely with the Superintendent and Project Manager, coordinates contracted work, supervises field operations, and has responsibility for safety and quality control policies and procedures. For Jonathan, a typical day at FaverGray involves dealing with the day-to-day logistics of construction. The best part of this experience for Jonathan is the knowledge and experience of construction that he acquires each day. When it comes to career achievements, he is proud to be a part of teams that have delivered projects under budget and ahead of schedule. While Jonathan cites discord between teams as the biggest challenge he has faced in the industry, he also says that is what has informed his multidimensional understanding of construction. If Jonathan were in a different industry, he would be in his previous field of social work. His appreciation of how construction propels growth and development inspired him to join the construction industry. Outside of work, Jonathan enjoys lifting weights, traveling – his favorite destination so far is San Diego – and spending time with his family. Jonathan’s favorite song is “Little Wing” by Jimi Hendrix!
Team Spotlight – James Hill

At FaverGray, we take pride in celebrating the people who make our projects possible. Meet James Hill, one of FaverGray’s diligent Directors of Construction who has been with the team for over a decade. James has more than 42 years of field experience in multifamily housing, student housing, and commercial construction. As Director of Construction, James is responsible for field staffing with oversight and support for his staff to ensure that each project has the resources and information to build the projects safely, on time, and with quality. According to James, there is no typical day at FaverGray. Every day presents its own challenges but helping to solve daily issues is part of the fun. His favorite part of his role is being able to teach, train, and help those around him to be successful, and James considers his greatest career achievement to be seeing those he helped succeed in their careers. James was inspired to join the construction industry by his father, who was a superintendent; if he were to be a part of any industry besides construction, he would choose music because that is his passion! While developing his ability to mentor others with patience, James has both learned and taught that there are some things you just can’t change without help. When he’s not working alongside a team of people he considers family, James unwinds by playing guitar and singing, doing landscape projects, drawing/painting, and going on walks with his wife. He dreams of traveling to California’s Redwood forests, but his favorite place he’s visited so far is Balaklava, Russia. And speaking of a passion for music, James’ favorite song is Bob Seger’s “Against the Wind”!
